2006 Connecticut State 4-H Quiz Bowl Contest Results

The Connecticut State 4-H Quiz Bowl Contest was held March 18-19, 2006 at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. Judges were Kristi Goncarovs and Karen Sinnott. The contest was organized by the chair Michelle Brozowsky and the State 4-H Horse Advisory Team. The winning senior team or individual in each contest with at least 3 counties participating is eligible to go on to the Eastern National 4-H Roundup in Louisville, KY to compete against other states in November. We had an outstanding group of 9 novices this year! They were Emily LaFlamme, Rachael LaFlamme, Burnham Thompson III, Dale Thompson, Lauren Marshall, Rebekah Butler, Brigitte Rathey, Shelby Elwell, and Mikayla Alger. It is our policy not to report novice results for any of the contests; we feel that they are all winners!! We hope they will continue to participate in the 4-H program.

The quiz bowl competition was exciting! This is a contest in which contestants buzz in to answer questions about horses, similar to “Jeopardy.” The 2006 Horse Bowl Contest Results for junior teams were: 1^st place - Middlesex Purple (Julia Anderson, Jesse Goodrich-Gotta, Emily Berman, and Emily Ferjak); 2^nd place – Middlesex Pink (Mary Martin, Kari Lemelin, Nichole Lemelin, and Leah DeGioia); 3^rd place- Litchfield Green (Ashley Volinki, Ally Hill, and Peter Hill), 4^th place – Litchfield Blue (Codi Deakin, Panagiota Togridis, Amber Nogiec, and Kelea Flynn), 5^th place – Tolland Orange (Heather Armstrong, Emelie Vanasse, Katie Quimby, and Tracy Webb); and 6^th place – Tolland Yellow: (Hannah Kalichman, Katy Allie, Foli Brooke, and Molly Fisher). The top junior individuals were: 1^st place - Julie Anderson, 2^nd place - Leah DeGioia, 3^rd place - Jesse Goodrich-Gotta, 4^th place - Ally Hill, 5^th place - Kelea Flynn, 6^th place - Nichole Lemelin, 7^th place - Kari Lemelin, 8^th place - Katie Quimby, 9^th place - Emelie Vanasse, and 10^th place - Emily Berman.

The senior team results were: 1^st place – Middlesex County (Alexandra Spencer, Kayleigh Meyer, Alicia Carlson, and Lindsay Gorman); 2^nd place – Tolland 1 (Justine Falcone, Lauren Falcone, Kyle Alexander, and Nicole Kenney) ; 3^rd place - Tolland 2 (Stephanie Giola, Melanie Dexter, Davinia Saglio, and Alexa Cheney) ; 4^th place – Hartford/Litchfield (Elizabeth Spielman, Violet Stewart, Cameron Rogers, and Nicole Silkey); and 5^th place – Hartford County (Jessica Matulis, Justine Levesque, Alexandra Housman, and Kelsey Hale). The top senior individuals were: 1^st place- Nicole Kenney, 2^nd place – Lindsay Gorman, 3^rd place – Stephanie Giola, 4^th place – Kayleigh Meyer, 5^th place – Davinia Saglio, 6^th place – Alexandra Spencer, 7^th place – Alicia Carlson, 8^th place – Justine Falcone, 9^th place – Kyle Alexander and 10^th place – Nicole Silkey. The winning team from Middlesex County will be competing at the 4-H Eastern National Horse Roundup in Louisville, Kentucky in November. Congratulations to all of the participants for a job well done!!
